Most candidates who get stuck between Band 5 and Band 6.5 aren’t stuck because they lack English ability. They’re stuck because they’re practising without a system — repeating the same cue cards, watching more videos, hoping fluency arrives on its own. It doesn’t. Part 1 of the IELTS Speaking test looks easy on paper. The examiner asks about your hometown, your job, your daily routine, whether you like reading — questions you could answer in your first language without thinking. That’s exactly why so many candidates get it wrong. They either panic and give a clipped, one-line answer,

Most Band 5 candidates who plateau there don’t have a talent problem — they have a strategy problem. They keep doing the same kind of practice (chatting in English, running through cue cards, hoping fluency arrives on its own) and wonder why the band never moves. The jump from 5 to 7 isn’t a vague

Most IELTS Speaking candidates walk into the test with a decent vocabulary and still score a 5.5 or 6 on Lexical Resource. That’s not usually a knowledge problem. It’s a deployment problem. They know the word “happy,” they know “important,” they know “difficult” — and under pressure, that’s exactly what comes out, once, and then
